What Is Considered a Dental Emergency?
Dental emergencies can vary depending on the situation and severity of symptoms. Some common dental emergencies may include:
- Severe or persistent tooth pain
- Swelling in the gums, jaw, or face
- Broken, chipped, or cracked teeth
- Knocked-out teeth
- Bleeding in the mouth that does not stop
- Signs of infection or abscess
If you are experiencing severe swelling, difficulty breathing, significant trauma, or uncontrolled bleeding, seek immediate medical attention or visit the nearest hospital.
What To Do During a Dental Emergency
If a dental emergency occurs, try to remain calm and contact our office as soon as possible. Our team will guide you on the next steps and help schedule an appointment based on the urgency of your condition and appointment availability.
For knocked-out teeth, gently place the tooth in milk or saliva and bring it with you to your appointment if possible. Avoid touching the root of the tooth.
Our goal is to provide timely emergency dental care in Kelowna while helping patients understand their treatment options and expected timelines for care.
