Dental Crowns
Dental crowns can be used for many reasons in dentistry. Crowns are a cap-like structure, and are completely customized to fit into your smile. They’re designed to blend in with the remaining teeth, leaving you with beautiful looking teeth and a strong bite.
How Are Crowns Used?
Dental crowns are made outside the mouth in a dental laboratory. In order to make sure a dental crown fits, your dentist will need to remove some of the outer tooth enamel from the natural tooth. Once the tooth has been prepped and the crown has been created, the customized crown can be attached and secured in place. Crowns can last between 10-15 years with excellent oral care.
When Are Crowns Used?
Dental crowns can be used for a variety of reasons, such as to strengthen a weakened tooth, hold a dental bridge in place, cover a tooth that has had a root canal treatment, cover severely stained teeth, or be attached to a dental implant. Crowns can be made from many materials, including porcelain, metal, and ceramic. Your dentist will suggest the right type of crown for your needs and budget.
